Welcome to the Doctor Who “Totally Awesome, Ridiculously, Doctor-like Internet Stuff”, a.k.a., TARDIS. This is a daily feature, here, on Doctor Who Cast, where we scour the internet for the greatest of the great, that lovers of the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who have created.

If you like what we’ve done here, we hope you keep on coming back for more Doctor Who Goodies. We also hope you will give our podcast, Doctor Whocast, a try! It is the only Podcast that travels in time, as well as, serves lemonade through a sink faucet.

Have I got a special treat for you today, my fellow Wholigans! Today, I had surfed the web to find that the trailer for the Doctor Who video game, Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock has been released this week. It was very exciting to see some actual game footage, and it’s only making me anticipate this game that much more. Granted, the graphics aren’t nearly as top-notch as most of the current games out there, but it still looks pretty damn good, considering. Plus, you get to encounter the myriad of The Doctor’s enemies, which I personally think they did a fine job replicating their appearances. One of the best features, I’ve found, is that you can play as, both, The Doctor and River Song – tell me that’s not awesome! Please, have a look for yourselves, and also feel free to, either, email or Tweet us with what you thought of this. Today’s “Totally Awesome, Ridiculously Doctor-like Internet Stuff” is a Doctor Who fanart created by (who else?) a fan, who had submitted this drawing onto buzzfeed.  This site has a page-full of Doctor Who related fanart, which are all awesome in their own way, so I urge you all to check it out!  But the following piece of art, however, stood out to me the most.  Depicted below is a beautiful, yet, dismal, scene of River Song killing The Doctor in front of his TARDIS.

This pic is a gorgeous display of one of the many ways The Doctor’s death could have played out, had River decided to take a more savage approach to murdering him.  It comes off as morose and, simultaneously, romantic.  The work of this particular fanart looks like something reminiscent of a Tarot card, between the shades of the colors, the placement of the images, and The Victorianesque tones and details.  I admire the fact that the artist included the Gallifreyan symbols on the bottom, bordering River’s name; I thought that was a nice touch!  Overall, I find it to be an impressive work of art.  You can also find this, among other works, here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/doctorwho/the-very-best-of-doctor-who-fan-art

Doctor Who Review | The Impossible Astronaut

Doctor Who Review | The Impossible Astronaut

by Brian Verderosa

[Note: There are spoilers below, that refer to events happening in the first act of the episode. Please don’t read if you want the entire episode to be fresh.]

Whereas some things are flux, such as the changing of the Doctor, the companion, or the showrunner, some things are fixed — namely the ability for “Doctor Who” to continually excite and astound. Series 6 began this week, and the long wait was not for naught, as the premiere, “The Impossible Astronaut,” delivered on most every level.

We pick up months after “A Christmas Carol” to a rendezvous with The Doctor, Rory & Amy, and Dr. River Song. Upon learning that the Doctor has aged 200 years since they last saw him, we see that while he is very much Matt Smith, he is much cooler & calmer, older & wiser since we last left him. And that’s when an astronaut shoots him in the chest.

That’s right, folks. In the series premiere, Steven Moffat seemingly kills off the titular character who is just entering his 32nd television broadcast year. There’s nothing to fear though, because the younger version of the Doctor meets up with his gang of fearless compatriots not soon after. And so the groundwork is lain for series 6, which, if it is framed by this “who killed the Doctor” arc, could prove more intense and satisfying than its previous year.

The episode itself is part one of a two-parter, however this first half is tightly wound and works on its own as a premonition of things to come. Smith has never been better as the Doctor, as he goofs off even more than usual (the fez makes an appearance) but also gets deep and dark with Dr. Song in a manner we haven’t seen before. The last year has been kind to Smith, who has honed his craft not into an imitation or elaboration on his precursor David Tennant’s performance, but rather a wholly unique and engaging take on the last of the Time Lords.

The real sense that overtakes you after this premiere is that the arc is going to be huge, but in a different way than before. Usually we’re treated to some sort of external disaster, that will end the world or the universe. But this time, the struggle is pointed inward, to our hero — the disaster of what will become of him.

Kudos go out to Karen Gillan, Alex Kingston and Arthur Darvill who all bring their A game. Moffat has constructed an elaborate puzzle that this crew will definitely factor into, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Hopefully, the worst thing I’ll be able to say about this series is that it was only thirteen episodes long.
